Shady
Lakes Trout & Bass fishing has been open to the public for the past 55
years. Owned by the Phillips family, it
remains a beautiful oasis in the Rio Grande valley just 10 minutes north of
downtown Albuquerque. Shady Lakes has
beautiful ponds abundant with water lilies and shaded picnic areas under huge
cottonwood trees. Ponds are stocked with rainbow trout, large mouth bass, and bluegill on a regular basis. Shady Lakes operates
seasonally, opening in the spring and closing in the fall.

DETAILS:
- Dogs are allowed but please keep them on a leash and properly clean up after them.
-
Feel free to bring folding chairs/tables to make your stay more
comfortable. We do have a limited supply of picnic tables on site.
- You are welcome to bring your propane grill. Many fishermen grill their fish after catching, and there are lots of hotdogs and hamburgers cooked out here!
- We do rent cane fishing poles for $2.95 a day.
- Bait is available for purchase on site.
- No, there is no boat launch. The ponds are not large enough for boats.
- Shady Lakes is privately owned and has their own permits, so no you don't need a license.

Shady Lakes Fishing Report
6/17/19- 6/23/19
Shady Lakes stocked additional Bass & Bluegill June 20th! The bass stocked are 2-1/2 to 3 lbs. Fishermen are getting great hits and catches every day. Bass bluegill are biting on topwater plastics and worms. Trout pond was stocked with 12-16" rainbow trout on May 3rd. Restocking trout pond on July lst with up to 18" trout. Trophy trout caught this week were: 17-1/2" rainbow trout caught by Niko Loddy, 4 years old, from Los Lunas! and 20" rainbow trout caught by Kevin Edwards, 7 years old, from Las Vegas, NV. Yeah to both of these young fishermen!!
5/13/19- 5/19/19
Hayes Middle School came to visit Shady Lakes on Monday with a total of 26 people- everyone left with a beautiful rainbow trout. Cross of Hope came out Wednesday and spent the day immersing themselves in nature while grilling their tasty catches for lunch. 5/6/19- 5/12/19
Shady Lakes opened for the Spring Fishing Season April 5th, and the FISH ARE BITING! Shady Lakes restocked the trout pond May 3rd with 12"-16" rainbow trout! Catch and release large mouth bass and bluegill activity has been strong. Ron Jay caught two 8lb large mouth bass on opening weekend, and a 9lb was caught shortly thereafter! Great picnic area tucked under giant 100 year old cottonwood trees ... only 10 minutes north of downtown Albuquerque.
